Did I do the right thing by calling my perents?

My mom and step dad are out on a school reunion and its all the way to colorado and we live in oceanside.so my step brother 28 and his gf are I guessbabysiting my little brothers and my mom told me she left her car keys and I had a feeling they werent there idk why so I checked and they were gone.i checked to see if the car was outside but it wasnt.i called my mom and told her.did I do the right thing?it wasnt his car and he didnt ask my mom to use her car either.
