Why did my ex give me a long hug?

Im really curious as to why he did this. Like when I went to leave he gave me a pretty long hug. I pulled away first because I thought that he was done hugging me and I thought hugging him longer would be weird. But anyways he just kept hugging and it surprised me. Then he hugged me a second time before he left and said when will I get to see you again. These werent small hugs they were pretty tight hugs and his boyfriend was standing there. Yes he is gay....but has told me hes only bi for me. But why did he do this?? Im really curious as to what you think.
