Is the female chromosome, x, recessive? Are male chromosomes, y, dominant?

I was just confused because I know that if you have Yx, then you're destined to be a male. If you have xx, then you're a female. Why is it in Yx that the Male Y is capitalized and the x is lowercase? Does that mean that the female chromosome x is always recessive compared to Y?
