I think I missed my chance..?

So me and this kid had a couple classes together and we were pretty good friends. And a lot of people kept telling me he liked me, then i started to like him then he told me and i told him. We had a thing together for the rest of the year. Then i went to california for a couple weeks and we would text each other every single day. So we planned on hanging out once i got back but then my cousin came here for a couple weeks so us hanging out kept getting pushed back. we werent going out because my friend said he wasnt going to ask me out over a text, he wanted to do it in person. All of a sudden he stopped texting and i was freakin out. then i hung out with my friend and she was texting him saying i was hanging out with her and stuff and he was like shut up and stuff. then he told her he got a gf! i was really sad and dissapointed because we both liked each other a TON. so then i was talking to a guy friend on facebook and he asked me if i still liked the kid and i was like yeah but he hates me then a couple days later the kid texted me and told me he didnt hate me and he felt really bad about getting a gf then he told me he still wants to be good friends and he thinks of me as a best friend but things are never going to be the same.
