Can anyone tell me what this part is called?

It goes on a pickup truck behind the cab.Its a metal bar that kind of looks like a soccer goal without the net.The bar kind of looks like a wider lowercase letter n.I see these around on older pickups and need to know what they are called it has nothing to do with a rack for a toolbox.
